I have been blogging for a while now, though I am a bit on and off, and definitely not a pro, I strongly believe that there is always room to learn! When I started, I made a free account on WordPress.com and was quite pleased with myself and my once in a month posts. But, over a period of time, I decided to be more consistent with my writing and find a more flexible platform for my writing.
As I have mentioned on this blog earlier, I like to enroll in many online courses, but just like most people, my motivation would vanish in the first few days, and I seldom completed the courses. My knowledge about WordPress was limited and I decided to learn more about it. I knew that there were plenty of free videos on Youtube that would teach me alot about WordPress but I preferred a more curated, course like structure, that I could take at my own pace and did not want to sift through varying levels of content quality. So, when the Udemy sale was up- I bought myself a short course on WordPress.
The course not only helped me validate my previous yet limited knowledge but helped me understand how to never get stuck in a writer’s block, how to shift from WordPress.com to WordPress.org (which I am super thankful for), how to create some image effects in WordPress, some fun ways to interact with other bloggers and tons of other stuff. I found myself watching videos and making notes, as if I was in class. I enjoyed it much more because of note-making, I realised I had been terribly missing the habit of handwriting. I do journal sometimes (which I will elaborate in another blog post), but it wasn’t the same.
The joy of wrapping up unfinished things
I lost interest in between because I knew some of the things, which seemed like a repeat but I pushed myself to carry on with it. I lost the battle and left the course midway. At the start of this year, much like my friends, I made goals and plans for myself. I wanted to focus on educating myself right through the year, and Udemy sale was on once again. Almost as an impulse, I was about to buy another course, when I stopped myself. I decided to not pile things on and finish the previously purchased course, only then I would allow myself to move to the next course. I am glad I did that, because the next few videos in the course series were fantastic! It was new, refreshing and kept me motivated to go on!
More than WordPress, the journey of undertaking the course taught me to not leave things in between and tie up lose threads. Since the start of 2022, that’s what I have been doing – be it responding to old messages, completing unfinished courses or picking up unfinished books. Before starting new things, this year has been more about wrapping up those things I have left undone in the past many months, and that, dear readers, is a truly liberating feeling!
